Pokhara

Pokhara – Where the Himalayas Whisper, and the Lakes Smile

Nepal has thousands of beautiful places, but when someone hears "Nepal travel," one place is the shiniest in everyone's mind — Pokhara. My first day at Pokhara is one day which I will never forget. Standing on the lake shore of Phewa Lake, gazing at Machhapuchhre, I always thought – "Whoever never saw Pokhara, never saw Nepal."

  •  Pokhara Ka Kathi – A Peek into the Past

Pokhara is not merely the tourist city of the present. It preserves the history of ancient pathways, kingdoms of kings and emperors, and the steps of traveling merchants. During times past, it was a part of the Kaski Kingdom, which was under the rule of Gurungs, Magars, and other tribes. Then there existed a pathway of trade from here to Tibet. Later on, when the unification of Nepal was started by Prithvi Narayan Shah, Pokhara also became a constituent part of Nepal.

  • Phewa Lake – The Heart of Pokhara

Pokhara itself is tightly interwoven with this lake. Phewa Lake is serene, deep, and incredibly, in the morning, the mirror reflection of Machhapuchhre mountain in the lake appears to be heaven descended. The Tal Barahi Temple is situated on a tiny island in the middle of Phewa – you need a boat to reach it. Once, sitting on that boat, sitting by the lake, staring at the hills around – it felt like – this is what life is all about.

  • Sarangkot – The Beauty of Dawn

If you are to visit Pokhara once in a lifetime, you absolutely cannot do without witnessing the sunrise from Sarangkot. Waking up at 4 AM, a bit sleepy, and ascending, when the golden sun pops out from behind the mountains and the tip of Annapurna and Machhapuchhre is shining — you are lost for words to see that. Paragliding is also a facility offered here. I myself, with a pinch of nervousness, went paragliding once. Flying in the wind, you feel like you are a bird, you are just flying.

  • Devi's Fall and Gupteshwor Cave

History of "Devi's Fall" is a bit silent. They say, there was a foreign woman who was bathing in the water – in an instant the current swept her away and she died. Since then this waterfall is known as Devi's Fall. Gupteshwor Cave is under the waterfall and can be accessed via a narrow path. There is a Shivling within the cave – the weather is very calm and sacred.

  • World Peace Pagoda – Where the Sky is Near

Another irreplaceable Pokhara gem is the World Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa). The white stupa, which carries Buddha's message, lies atop a hill overlooking Phewa Lake. From there, Pokhara city, Phewa Lake, and the Himalayas come in sight all at the same time. In the evening during the sunset, this place is like heaven.

  • Adventure Pokhara – Where Fear Becomes Fun

Pokhara is a place where Adventure Tourism has bloomed like a flower. You can experience here:

Paragliding: Paraglide from Sarangkot to Phewa Lake.

Bungee Jumping: Jump from 200 meters close to Kushma.

Zip-lining: One of the fastest zip-line rides on the planet.

Annapurna Trekking: Treks which begin right from Pokhara.

All of them have made Pokhara the "adrenaline capital of Nepal."

  • Bindhyabasini Temple: A Sacred Pause Above Pokhara

Just a short ride from Pokhara’s Lakeside, Bindhyabasini Temple sits peacefully on a hilltop, quietly watching over the city. Dedicated to Goddess Bindhyabasini, a fierce form of Durga, the temple is a beloved spiritual center for locals—where prayers, blessings, and traditions blend into everyday life.

Legend says the goddess chose this spot herself, refusing to move once she arrived. Today, the white Shikhara-style temple welcomes visitors with the scent of incense, ringing bells, and warm smiles. Whether you're here to seek blessings, enjoy the panoramic views of Pokhara and the Himalayas, or just soak in the peaceful vibe, this place has a way of slowing you down—in the best way.

With easy access, a lift for elderly visitors, and a heart full of stories, Bindhyabasini isn’t just a temple—it’s a feeling.

  • Pundikot: Where Peace Meets the Sky

Tucked away in the hills just above Pokhara, Pumdikot feels like a hidden piece of heaven. As you arrive, the first thing you’ll see is a towering 108-foot statue of Lord Shiva, calmly watching over the valley. The air is quiet, the views are endless, and the energy? Simply peaceful.

From up here, you get a full sweep of Phewa Lake, Pokhara city, and the snow-covered Annapurna range stretching across the horizon. It’s not just a photo spot — it’s a place that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and just be.

Whether you hike up through forest trails or drive up the winding road, Pumdikot leaves an impression that lasts long after you leave. It’s spiritual, scenic, and soul-soothing — a perfect escape from the bustle of Lake side.

  • Pokhara Lakeside – A World of Joy

The instant you hear the word "Lakeside," you imagine roads shimmering with lights, restaurants having live bands, and foreigners dancing to Nepali music. It is one of the simplest places to get Nepali, Thakali, Italian, and Chinese cuisine in Lakeside. And there, you will find anything from budget hotels to 5-star hotels. If you are a YouTuber or a blogger, Pokhara's Lakeside can be your heaven on earth.

  • Begnas Lake: In Search of Serenity

If Phewa Lake is too crowded for your taste, go out to Begnas Lake for the day. There, you have still rural way of life, fishing boats, and serene lake. On a hot afternoon, passing an hour by its shore, life feels like it has slowed down.

  • Making Your Trip Memorable

Pokhara isn't a "ticketed tour"; it's a feeling. Here, you carry away not only what you photograph, but also moments that remain forever in your soul.

  • Conclusion – A Must-Visit City

Pokhara isn't a city — it's a verse,

where the water of each lake sings a song,

each mountain tells a tale in silence,

and each visitor returns with fond memories.

Did you ever visit Pokhara? Or is it your dream travel destination?
